High Glamour in Mid Century Furnishings

When most of us envision Mid Century furniture, sleek linear lines come to mind such as the furniture of Florence Knoll, George Nelson and Mies van der Rohe. Yet a large array of design from the era is imbued with glamour, brass, and sculptural curves. We've come to refer to the stylized designs of this era as Hollywood Regency.

Leading examples are Vladimir Kagan, an illustrious designer who experimented with sensuous curves in his iconic pieces; and Pepe Mendoza, the modernist sculptor from Mexico City, was interested in working with brass and brightly colored enamels in contrast to the stainless steel and wood products used in Scandinavian design.

From the highly sculptural lines of the Karpen chairs to the round Asian-influenced Kittinger table that earned design praise in 1948, the items featured below are Hollywood Regency glamour at its finest!
